Following is my very delayed post of the CBCA shortlist! Only a week behind schedule! I blame school holidays, lol!
The theme for Book Week 2015 is Books Light up our World and as 2015 marks the 70th anniversary of the Children’s Book Council of Australia, I’m sure the celebrations throughout Australian schools will be fun!
It is, of course, another great selection this year for the CBCA awards. Its fantastic to see Claire Zorn in the shortlist again this year – I had a feeling The Protected would be nominated. It is such a wonderful novel, heartbreaking but hopeful, beautifully written and well structured – you can read my review of it HERE, and her 2014 shortlisted book The Sky so Heavy HERE. I’ve also read Are you Seeing Me? which was also a really good read. Honestly I wish I had more time! I am so behind on reading and reviews! I have Melissa Keil’s Cinnamon Girl in my TBR pile, along with Nona & Me. And all the other books? I am hoping to read a fair few of these before the winner is announced.
Please also check out the CBCA Notables, (basically the longlist) especially if you are looking for a good read for your children, as there are many more wonderful books listed there – too many for one blog post! But one I would like to mention is Masquerade by Kylie Fornasier, not only because she is a friend and introduced me to a wonderful writing group, but her book is fantastic and I’m so pleased for her that she received a Notable nomination with her first novel! It really is a great Young Adult read about young love and intrigue in 18th century Venice. Read my review of Masquerade HERE.
Good luck to all the shortlisted authors and illustrators! The winners are announced during Book Week in late August.
